Backstory.

The Arc Train was first thought of as a cable-driven gondola ride that would connect the rooftops of Downtown Los Angeles.

Walking to downtown LA is a frequent trip that many perform on a weekly basis. The nearly 40 minute long walk from Echo Park to downtown isn’t meant to be easy for most, but the view of the high rises in the distance is a comforting one. At one point the idea of cables connecting buildings popped in, and the design of the train started coming into vision. With luck, a team started forming. Now, about a year and a half in, it’s so far evolved into a planned route along high traffic corridors that connect local economies to each other.

Patent Pending, the Arc Train is a defining project that emphasizes the bold attitude about the entrepreneurial culture in our home city of L.A. It addresses how, in a world that’s different than even 10 years ago, the 1860s technology that we use to get around has to do more than evolve, it has to be remade.

An inspiring way to get around, based on existing transportation options such as the Wuppertal Schwebebahn and H-bahn in Germany, the Suspension Railway in Memphis, the Chicago “L” on the CTA. Gondola projects along ski slopes the world over. This is their younger sister.

• A better use of funds. More train for the money, with an over 60% cost reduction.
Employing just as many people to create as a subway.
• A way of getting around that speaks to the soul. A floating art piece.
A gigantic solar array or carbon sequestration option in the middle of a populace.
• A transit option that pulls in tourism.
• A train that people who have the means to drive would still want to take.

Every locale requires different approaches, which is why no train can be exactly the same in any place, but we’ve made building and maintaining it as simple as possible.

Using this design, we can save your locale from cost overruns, connect it in an inspiring way, build something that is politically feasible, and deliver something in a matter of years, not decades.
